CelTx™ for Oral Soft Tissue Regeneration

Living cells that regenerate oral soft tissue the way nature intended

In late-stage development, CelTx™ is a cellular construct designed to deliver living cells to regenerate soft tissue in the mouth (also known as oral mucosa or more commonly, gums). CelTx has been studied extensively as an alternative to patient-donated palate tissue.

In order to save teeth, every year 500,000 procedures are performed, which currently use soft tissue taken from the roof of the patient’s mouth and placed on the oral mucosa. Significant drawbacks include: (1) pain and morbidity, (2) limited tissue to treat all of the teeth requiring intervention, and (3) unappealing aesthetics due to poor color and texture match.

CelTx contains and produces cytokines and growth factors to stimulate the patient’s own cells to regenerate new, healthy tissue that looks and feels natural. With CelTx, Organogenesis hopes to address the drawbacks of oral soft tissue procedures for teeth, precluding the need for patient-donated tissue grafts, eliminating pain and complications at the patient-tissue donor site, and regenerating aesthetically appealing tissue.

With its clinical trials completed, Organogenesis expects to submit CelTx data
for approval submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2009.
