FortaPerm®
Stress urinary incontinence is the leakage of urine as a result
of increased pressure (i.e. coughing, laughing, sneezing) upon the
bladder. This is a result of the bladder neck dropping to a position
where it does not squeeze shut when pressure is applied. FortaPerm®
is used as a sling to raise the bladder neck back into a position
where it is able to squeeze shut when pressure is applied.
For tissue support, FortaPerm® adds
long-term structural support to soft tissue where native tissue
is either insufficient or absent.
The FortaPerm® product is a multi-layer construct with a high level of collagen crosslinking. Due to the unique design attributes, FortaPerm® resists remodeling and degradation, provides long-term bio-mechanical strength and incorporates as a distinct tissue layer. It is designed for surgical applications that require long-term support (e.g., stress urinary incontinence sling, vaginal prolapse repair).
Studies demonstrate that FortaPerm® constructs with
a high level of collagen crosslinking:
- Resist degradation and remain intact long-term
- Are well-integrated at the suture line
- Do no elicit a foreign body response
- Are as strong as adjacent host tissue at 360 days
