CuffPatch™

CuffPatch™ for rotator cuff surgery repairs the tendons that connect the upper arm bones to the shoulder blade. The tendons help raise and rotate the arm, thus, if overloaded, they can be subjected to inflammation and tear. Surgery involves reattachment of tendons to bone and repair of tendon tears. To support and speed up healing of the tendons, CuffPatch™ is wrapped around the tendon.

CuffPatch™ was cleared by the FDA in March 2002 for the reinforcement of soft-tissue, specifically the supraspinatus tendon, in rotator cuff repair procedures. The product was developed through a joint development effort with Biomet, Sports Medicine (formerly Arthrotek) Inc. of Warsaw, Indiana. CuffPatch™ is an eight-layer version of FortaFlex® with high biomechanical strength and a low-level of collagen matrix bonding that is designed to remodel into the patient’s tissue within one year. The product is designed to reinforce rotator cuff repair by allowing for a faster recovery turnover and reduces the likelihood of tear reoccurrence.
Organogenesis Inc. has expanded the indications for additional tendon repair applications including all rotator cuff tendons, patellar tendon, and Achilles tendon.

CuffPatch™ is the first collagen biomaterial to be approved by the FDA for all tendons of the human body.
