Bio-active wound healing

Chronic wounds are open wounds that for a variety of reasons fail to heal by the body’s own efforts.
The three most common types of chronic wounds are diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers and pressure ulcers.
In the US roughly three million patients suffer from chronic wounds, representing a burden to the healthcare system in excess of $10 billion.
Patients affected by chronic wounds include the elderly, people with diabetes, bed ridden patients, and people with hereditary disorders that make their skin prone to ulcers.

Chronic wounds can lead to pain, diminished quality of life, impaired mobility, reduced productivity and in some cases, amputations. Good conventional wound care, consisting of infection control, cleaning, and keeping pressure off the wound and other such basic approaches, can often heal these wounds. Roughly a third of these chronic wounds, however, fail to heal and a more active approach to healing is needed.
Bio-active wound products are designed to kick start the body's natural healing process in these hard to heal patients.

The products in our bio-active wound healing portfolio include Apligraf® and VCT01™.
