Our field

Following 20 years of intense research, regenerative medicine has come of age. Several factors are contributing to the invigoration of our field:

• The increasing number of early-phase regenerative medicine “start-up” companies.
• Excitement and investment in the closely related area of stem cell research.

Early efforts in our field of Regenerative Medicine (also called Tissue Engineering) were driven, in part, to overcome the shortage of donor organs suitable for transplantation. Today, living 3D regenerative medicine constructs are FDA approved and available on demand for multiple therapeutic applications.

Over the last 20 years, our field has transitioned from visionary science fiction, into exciting, proven science, and has recently become a successful commercial reality.

Our history

Having pioneered the field, Organogenesis is a leading regenerative medicine company. A new era in medicine arrived when Organogenesis received one of the first FDA approvals for a living, human cell-based product. Apligraf^® is now the leading regenerative medicine brand in the world.

This was the culmination of two decades of cutting edge research by a dedicated team of scientists, combined with Organogenesis’ development of the first model for mass production and distribution of living technology to medical clinics around the world.

Another achievement has been to solidify the company's position as experts in successfully commercializing living, cell-based brands. We have built a sales and marketing organization dedicated to facilitating the adoption of regenerative medicine brands as a standard-of-care choice for patients. To date we have treated over 250,000 patients with Apligraf^®. This constitutes over two-thirds of all cell based products applied to patients worldwide. These days, a patient is treated with Organogenesis technology once every three minutes.
